COVID-19 – Working from home options

Dear Customers,

The Novel Coronavirus pandemic is impacting all of us, friends, family, and coworkers. This is an unprecedented time for everyone and our hearts and thoughts are with you.

As a valued customer and user of Ansys simulation products, we recognize the importance of these products and the CADFEM services that we provide you and your business. You rely on these simulation tools and us to be successful in your work and your livelihood. With that in mind, we have prepared the following guidelines to assist you, if you find yourself needing to social distance and work from home:

Your Ansys software uses a client-server based license manager that provides a lot of flexibility for remote access users, including running the license server in the cloud. Here are several different recommendations to consider:

  • If you have license borrow enabled (see this PDF), borrow the licence(s) whilst on your place of work’s LAN. This will allow you to check out the license for up to 1 month at a time (you will need to reconnect to your Work’s LAN to borrow again for a subsequent month). If your licences are not borrowable but you would like to convert, please get in touch with us.
  • Ask your Ansys Site Coordinator (ASC) to use the Ansys Self Service license portal (see this PDF) to modify &/or create a license key for your home based machine.

If these options are not available to you, the following solutions may be worth considering:

  • If you don’t currently have a VPN then one easy to setup low cost option that we’ve had good experience with VPN.net – Hamachi by LogMeIn
  • Adopt CADFEM AWS and move your Ansys license server to the cloud. There is a cost involved, but many advantages. In particular, it gives you access to HPC machines which allow you to run jobs faster. See here for further details or contact us to discuss.

The above are the preferred methods, however for those with no other options, please contact us to discuss obtaining a temporary license key and install the Ansys license manager locally on your machine.

Also, don’t forget that the CADFEM UK & Ireland technical support team are available to assist you as usual – They are being responsible by working from home, with appropriate access to software, licenses & broadband. Reach out for technical support here:
