CADFEM Ireland Ltd and CADFEM UK CAE Ltd. are two small companies which specialises in engineering simulation solutions. The core of our business is simulation.
We have been in business since the 1990’s initially operating as IDAC Ireland Ltd and IDAC Ltd. (UK) respectively. we joined the CADFEM International group of companies, trading as CADFEM Ireland and CADFEM UK CAE Ltd., so as to be able to provide additional breath and depth of simulation services to our growing list of Irish, UK and international clients, through mutual international collaborations.
Cumulatively our group of 18 skilled and motivated staff have more than 100 years experience in providing and supporting simulation led engineering solutions. Our expertise is spread across a wide range of engineering sectors: medical devices, renewable energy, aerospace, automotive, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, power engineering amongst others. Working with the ANSYS suite of simulation products we are expert in its customisation for particular engineering applications. In addition we have recently developed cloud based hardware solutions for our client base which enables flexible, economic and on demand access to high end computing resources over the web. We have expertise in linear and nonlinear, static and dynamic, implicit and explicit, stress analyses, steady state and transient heat transfer analysis, computational fluid dynamics analysis, fluid-structure analysis.
Derek Sweeney, a Mechanical Engineer, graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from University College Dublin. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland, and is Managing Director of CADFEM Ireland Ltd. Derek founded Idac Ireland Ltd, the forerunner to CADFEM Ireland Ltd, on his return to Ireland having worked in the UK for GEC Large Steam Turbines and in the US for GE Aircraft Engines.
Paul Fanning, a Civil Engineer, graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from University College Dublin in 1988 and a PhD from the University of Surrey in 1993. Paul is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Ireland, and a Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering at University College Dublin. His association with CADFEM Ireland dates back to 1997 following three years with LG Mouchel & Partners (a multi-disciplinary firm of civil engineering consultants) in the UK.
Bob Moore graduated with a degree in Applied Mathematics and Physics from Trinity College Dublin in 1992. Bob has since worked in in software engineering and IT, in fields such as artificial neural network research, image processing and cochlear implants. Bob looks after all CADFEM Ireland Ltd’s IT needs and services. Bob has built several ANSYS and CFX based vertical applications. Bob has also developed several virtual machines and networks in the Amazon cloud, and also helps CADFEM’s clients leverage and cloud computing and ANSYS customisation to their advantage.
Adrian Dunne graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 2011 and a Masters Degree in Computational Fluid Dynamics from Cranfield University (UK) in 2012. During this period he gained valued CFD simulation experience having being involved in the aerodynamic design of a Unmanned Arial Vehicle. He joined CADFEM Ireland ltd. in 2012 with particular responsibility for CFD simulations while also contributing to a wide variety of projects spanning renewable energies, oil & gas, aerodynamics and medical device design. He is the focal point of contact for ANSYS Technical Support to our customer base.
Barbara Leichtenstern supports CADFEM Ireland as a European Business Consultant. She has over 25 years of experience in customer service & relations management, business development and marketing & PR. Barbara networks with clients and associations in the frame of several initiatives for engineering simulation and our marketing. Luigi Cordani, graduated from University College London with a Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc Eng Hons) in 1982. He worked for Babcock Energy Ltd for 6 years in their Nuclear Engineering department, using FEA in the design of the steam generators for the Sizewell B PWR. He then spent 3 years with Finglow Ltd, writing code for their pressure vessel design software. Since 1992, he has been working with ANSYS, providing support and training, and using the program for consultancy and sales support, with STRUCOM, IDAC Ltd and now CADFEM CAE UK Ltd.
Ian Turner graduated from Southampton University in 1994, with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for DRA Farnborough (now QinetiQ) for 2 years, doing FE analysis of composites. He then joined Rolls-Royce Aerospace in Derby, working on fatigue of Gas Turbine discs. In 2000, he moved to Essex to work for MSX International (later Arrk Technical Services) on vehicle crash analysis. In 2009, after a year at Vectayn doing head impact analysis, he joined CADFEM UK CAE Ltd (formerly IDAC Ltd). Ian’s role involves working on consultancy projects, delivering training and providing technical support, primarily for structural analysis, but also for shock and impact analysis using AUTODYN or LS-DYNA.
